I Built a Six-Figure Practice in a Minivan
People ask me how I do it all.
The honest answer is: I don't.
I just do what matters, in the right order, at the right time.
My workday is 10am to 3pm. That's it. Five hours. And some people hear that and think — well, that's not a real business then. That's a side hustle.
No. It's a six-figure consulting practice built intentionally around my kids' schedule.
I drive Cooper to hockey. I drive Sofee to softball and horse riding. I'm at every game, every concert, every camp drop-off. I'm in the front seat — because that's where the real conversations happen. When your kids are in the front seat, they share things they'd never tell you at the dinner table.
I call this the bus-driver mom era. And I'm owning it.
This wasn't accidental. When I started building my care management practice, my kids were five and seven. I knew from day one that if this business required me to be chained to a desk from 8 to 6, I'd be trading one box for another.
So I structured it differently.
Patient calls happen between 10 and 3. Physician reports happen early morning before the kids wake up or during nap time. Client calls happen when they happen — sometimes after bedtime, sometimes on a Sunday afternoon. And I'm okay with that because I chose it.
A year and a half ago, the horse barn where Sofee rides burned down in the middle of February. Twenty horses needed to be re-homed immediately. I took two days off. I was at the barn rebuilding stalls and helping the community.
Try doing that with a W-2 pharmacy job. Try calling your district manager and saying "I need two days off because my community needs me."
That's why I built this. Not because I'm making a fortune — though the money is real — but because I can be available for the things that matter.
I like to say I weave a pretty blanket. Work and life, threaded together, day by day. And when I'm sitting in my rocking chair years from now, I want to look at that blanket and see something beautiful.
You don't need more time. You need the right structure for the time you have.
🎧 This week on The Dose, I break down what the bus-driver mom schedule actually looks like — and why the pharmacists in PIVOT are building this around young kids, full-time jobs, and real life. Listen here.
