Taking the Leap: What I’ve Learned About Risk as a Pharmacist Entrepreneur

May 23, 20252 min read

When I left traditional pharmacy to build something of my own, I wasn’t fearless. I was afraid of failing. Afraid of judgment. Afraid of losing the stability I had worked so hard to achieve.

But I took the leap anyway.

And here’s what I’ve learned about risk on this side of the profession — the entrepreneur side.

1. Staying Still Is Also a Risk

In pharmacy, we’re conditioned to avoid risk. We triple-check doses, document every step, and operate under strict protocols. That same mindset, while essential for patient safety, can become a trap when applied to your career growth.

Doing nothing is not the safe choice. It’s a quiet gamble — one that risks your fulfillment, energy, and purpose.

2. Clarity Comes Through Action

When I launched my first program, it wasn’t perfect. Neither was my business model or my website. But I moved anyway. Because movement creates clarity — and clarity is what gives you momentum.

You won’t figure out the “right” next step by thinking alone. You have to step into the unknown to discover what’s possible.

3. Risk Can Be Calculated — and Still Worth It

People assume I woke up one day and quit cold turkey. I didn’t. I worked nights on my ideas. I talked to mentors. I ran numbers. I took risks, yes, but they were informed.

The idea that entrepreneurship is reckless or impulsive? Not true. As pharmacists, we’re uniquely skilled to evaluate options, mitigate risks, and make strategic decisions. I just applied those skills in a new direction.

4. Regret Hurts More Than Risk

One of the most sobering thoughts that pushed me forward was this:
"What if I’m in the same place 5 years from now… and nothing has changed?"

That scared me more than failing ever could.

If you’re standing at a crossroads right now, wondering whether to leap — I see you. I’ve been there. You’re not reckless. You’re ready.

And if you want a community and roadmap for taking that leap? The Pivot Program is here for you.

Let’s redefine what “secure” looks like. Let’s make freedom the goal.
